Rethinking Workforce Housing

What better way to empower and engage people than to give them the tools for success, right in the communities where they live? That’s exactly what our family of related companies is doing for thousands of residents from coast to coast. At the 406-unit Columbia Heights Village in Washington, DC and 700-unit El Rancho Verde Apartment Homes in San Jose, we facilitated partnerships between on-site teams and local nonprofits to offer free social services such as youth after-school programs and computer, ESL, nutrition, and fitness classes. Even better, innovative capital improvement and energy conservation programs we helped conceive are reducing operating costs, and the savings are being re-invested into improved social services. These initiatives are making a difference: we’re proud to say that many of these residents are moving up and out, opening the doors for new families to call these communities “home”.

“That’s what this partnership is all about... people working together to make everyone’s life better.”

— John Shanley, HUD Multifamily Housing Director
